Ever query a major search engine for information on a specific topic? You probably found yourself faced
with hundreds or even thousands of links. Nobody has time to follow them all. What's worse, a lot of the
links are dead, but you won't find that out until you've clicked and waited.
That's why Accursed Toys has created CognagentTM, the cognitive web search
agent that automatically visits and catalogs sites in a user specified corner of the Internet.
A search this detailed and current would be impossible for the major
search engines because their focus is entirely different. But Cognagent is designed for small, quick
search and catalog tasks on inexpensive hardware. Sometimes smaller is better!
CognagentTM runs on Windows 95/98 and Windows NT systems. You can run cognagent on your desktop PC. Or,
if you have CGI-BIN directory access to your own Windows NT web server, you can install and use Cognagent.
The controls are all via Windows or HTML and can be accessed remotely.
CognagentTM is designed for several related functions.
Private search engine. The Cognagent spider follows a seed list of sites chosen by the user. The
user controls how far Cognagent drills down into each site and how far to follow links off from each site
it finds. This permits a tailored search of any subject that has pages on the Internet.
Individual site index. The user can set the software to search only their own site to build a
complete interactive index that automatically updates itself.
Index verification. Since Cognagent notes all broken links, it can generate a "cleanup" list for the
user's own site.
Off-site link verification and updating. A site that relies on valid links to other sites can set
Cognagent to automatically remove invalid links from its database after they have been reported by the spider.
Meta searcher. Cognagent can even spider pages on other search engines for a highly concentrated,
quick search of a specific subject. Those links can then be followed to build a laser-focused search
engine for one special subject.
Link freshening. If pages in the search topic change quickly, Cognagent will automatically generate
new links as often as the user chooses.
The personal version, Cognagent LiteTM is now available. It supports searches on 256 different URLs.
CognagentTM is targeted for Pentium level NT servers. CognagentTM is written in the "C" family
of languages. It contains no PERL scripting. It runs lightning fast with minimal
load on the host computer's CPU. It's optimized to use minimal hard drive space.
CognagentTM is designed for any level of Pentium computer.
